Reading In The Dark

Parents often tell me that their kids like to read in the dark and they are concerned that that is bad for their eyes. When a child or anybody reads in the dark it really does no permanent damage to their eyes or their vision. However, when it’s dark, it’s certainly much harder to see what you are looking at. So my advice is, tell your kids to have a light on when they read. Have it coming over their shoulder, illuminating what they are looking at, try to avoid glossy pages however these days with every young child on a phone, that’s kind of hard to avoid. But do not worry about them causing any permanent damage to their eyes, it’s not hurting them at all to read in the dark.
