There are two basic types of contact lenses, hard and soft. The majority of lenses fit these days are soft, because they are immediately comfortable, whereas hard lens take 1-2 weeks to become comfortable. However, hard lenses provide slightly better vision, last longer, and can control myopia better than soft lenses, and are recommended in certain types of eye diseases. Regardless, soft lenses are more popular and are typically available in planned replacement wearing regimens: single use 1-day, 2 week, 1 month and 3 month lenses. There are annual wear lenses, but these are fading in popularity.
