A cataract is a clouding of the clear, onion like lens which is positioned behind the iris and pupil. Clouding can occur simply from aging, but also from trauma, certain medications, and general health problems, especially diabetes. To minimize the cause of most cataracts, it’s good to wear UV blocking sunglasses and to get 500mg of Vitamin C every day. If cataracts develop to a point where they significantly impair vision, (less than 20/50 acuity), they can be removed by surgical means, only. There is no medication currently available to reverse cataracts.
