Meet Our Doctors

Robert Turcios Jr., O.D.

Dr. Robert Turcios Jr. is a second generation optometrist who has practiced in Pleasant Hill since 1984. He was born and raised in the Bay Area and attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, in 1978 and his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1980, earning academic awards for Excellence in Binocular Vision and Outstanding Merit for his doctoral thesis. He practiced with his father, a long-time East Bay optometrist and associate clinical professor at Cal, until he moved to Pleasant Hill.

In addition to providing general eye care to all in need, Dr. Turcios’ special interest include:

  • The fitting of specialty contact lenses for astigmatism and bifocal needs;
  • The diagnosis and management of eye disease such as Macular Degeneration and Glaucoma, which he is certified to treat;
  • Children’s vision problems and eye coordination training.

He is a member of the American and California Optometric Associations and active in the community as a member of the Rotary Club of Pleasant Hill, where he was president from 2011/2012. He is an avid golfer and enjoys following Cal Athletics. He has coached his children’s CYO basketball teams and continues to support local youth sports. Happily married to his wife Janet (who is the office manager) for over 35 years, they have raised three daughters who have attended Carondelet and Christ the King schools, where he and Janet are parishioners.


Dr. Kathie Huang

Dr. Kathie Huang grew up in San Francisco and graduated from UCLA with a Biology degree. She returned to her roots in the Bay Area and graduated from UC Berkeley School of Optometry in 2018. While in optometry school, she was a member of Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society and did dry eye research as a recipient of the National Institute of Health’s T35 grant.

Fueled by her passion to advance care for her future patients, Dr. Huang completed an ocular disease residency at the John Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit. She practiced in Michigan briefly for a large hospital system before returning to California. She is excited to join the team at Advanced Eyecare and to serve the community of Pleasant Hill. Dr. Huang also speaks Cantonese.

In her free time, Dr. Huang loves reading, cooking new recipes, and spending time with her cavapoo puppy.


Dr. Alyssa Lau

Dr. Alyssa Lau was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. She received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Loyola Marymount University and her Doctorate of Optometry from UC Berkeley School of Optometry. Dr. Lau was a member of Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society and was an avid volunteer with LightHouse for the Blind.

While in optometry school, Dr. Lau has trained at various community clinics in the Bay Area/Marin County and also trained at the Veterans Affairs clinic in Honolulu. Dr. Lau has experience in working with opthalmology where she learned some of the latest technology for dry eye treatment including intense pulsed light therapy and fitting amniotic membrane lenses.

Dr. Lau enjoys the outdoors and likes to spend her time hiking, camping, and trying new hobbies. Being a former dance instructor, she now enjoys doing barre/pilates. As a new resident of the Bay Area, she is always looking for local restaurants to try.
