Robert Turcios, O.D.
Dr. Robert Turcios is a second generation optometrist who was born in San Francisco and raised in El Cerrito. He attended University of California, Berkeley, receiving his Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, in 1978, and his Doctor of Optometry Degree in 1980, earning academic awards for Excellence in Binocular Vision and Outstanding Merit for his doctoral thesis. He practiced with his father, a long-time east bay optometrist and associate clinical professor at Cal, before moving to Pleasant Hill in 1984.
Besides providing general eye care to all in need, Dr. Turcios’ special interests include:
- Children’s vision and eye coordination problems.
- The fitting of specialty contact lenses for astigmatism, reading or bifocal needs.
- The diagnosis and management of eye diseases such as cataract, macular degeneration and glaucoma, which he is certified to treat, if indicated.
He is a member of the American and California Optometric Associations and active in the community as a member of the Rotary Club of Pleasant Hill, where he was president in 2012/2013. He is an avid golfer and skier, and enjoys following Cal athletics. He has coached CYO basketball and continues to support youth sports in the community. His children have attended local schools, including Carondolet and Christ the King in Pleasant Hill, where he and his wife are parishioners.

Melanie Mason, O.D.
Dr. Melanie Mason is excited to be a member of the Advanced Eyecare Optometry team. Dr. Mason graduated with academic honors from the UC Berkeley School of Optometry in 2011. She then completed a year of residency at UC Berkeley in Primary Care and Specialty Contact Lenses. Her training focused on:
- Eye disease, including glaucoma and dry eye
- Specialty contact lens fittings for conditions like keratoconus, post-surgical irregular corneas, orthokeratology, high astigmatism, and multifocal lenses
- Low vision evaluations, to maximize functional vision of people with conditions like macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and albinism
- Urgent care diagnosis and management
As a member of the faculty at UC Berkeley School of Optometry, Dr. Mason spends a day a week teaching optometry students in a clinical setting. She currently serves on the Board of the Alameda and Contra Costa Counties Optometric Society as the Continuing Education Director. She also participates in vision screenings for underserved populations in local communities.
Dr. Mason was raised in Atascadero, CA, where she was an avid soccer player and runner. She completed her undergraduate education at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where she met her husband, Daniel. Whenever not in clinic, she and her husband spend most of their time outdoors. They love backpacking, mountain biking, road biking, running, and watching baseball.Dr. Mason is personable, knowledgeable, and ready to help you with all of your eyecare needs.
Samira Qazi, O.D.
Dr Samira Qazi is originally from North Carolina. She completed her undergraduate in Biological Sciences at North Carolina State University and graduated from Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University with an Optometric Doctorate in 2009.
Her clinical training included externships at the Philadelphia Veterans Hospital and disease based practices in North Carolina. Dr. Qazi practices primary care optometry with an interest in ocular disease treatment and management. She is glaucoma certified and fluent in Urdu/Hindi.
Dr. Qazi has been practicing in the Bay Area for over a year and is excited to be a part of Advanced Eye Care.
